Prayer is our mandate from heaven. Prayer is one of the most valuable assets we have as His church. God allows us to partner with him to fulfill his plans, purposes and pursuits on earth. It is the means by which we open our hearts to God, so He can speaks to us. Prayer keeps our hearts soft toward Him and is the foundation of our Christian walk. Prayer keeps us from sin and also to sin. Prayer is entering into the Most Holy Place, into the very presence of God.

The church was born in prayers and continues the ministry of the master. Prayer is based on communion and fellowship with God. Prayer is communication not with men but with God. We cannot really pray if we do not have a relationship with God. Jesus left the church with nothing; they only started in prayers.

During critical times in human history; God has moved on His people to pray. Desperate prayers are effective prayers. Our prayers must mean something to us if they are to mean anything to God. We are in a season of God calling His people to prayer.  "The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much." (James 5:16)

Elijah went to the top of Carmel and crouched down and put his face between his knees and prayed. 2 Chronicles 7:14 “If my people who are called by my name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” Elijah prays and the history of Israel changed (James: 5: 17) Hezekiah’s life was extended through prayer. (II King 20: 2-6) New ministries were launched through prayers. (Act 13: 1- 4)

"Satan opposes prayer because he knows that the result will be great and wonderful. Prayer is perhaps the greater power source God gave to His Church that why the devil and the flesh oppose."

When we go to pray the devils knows we will get strength against him. So we must protect this power source – PRAYER. Always remember Jesus the son of God relied heavily on prayer. Luke 6: 12. He spent all night on prayers. This weapon of prayer is mightier than all the weapons of hell. In fact, the devil trembles whenever a Christian is on his knees. It is said of John Knox that rulers trembled whenever he prayed and preached.

What is True Prayer?

True prayer beyond ordinary prayer is much more than asking God for thing. But prayer must be vital and real relationship with our heavenly Father. John 15: 7 the master key Jesus said if you abide in me and my words abide in you. You shall receive what you ask. Knowing Christ is living continually in unbroken fellowship with Him and having His word alive in our lives. Prayers are like breathing. Jesus made a prophetic declaration.

My house shall be called a House of Prayer

"And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the money changers, and the seats of them that sold doves, and He said unto them, 'It is written, "My house shall be called a house of prayer"; but you have made it a "den of thieves"'(Matthew 21:12, 13)." Jesus makes reference to two passages of Scripture in this text. The first is Isaiah 56:7: "Them will I bring to My holy hill and give them joy in My house of prayer; their offerings and sacrifices shall be accepted on My altar there; My temple shall be called a house of prayer for every nation. So accept the prayer mandate. It is more than a stirring exhortation to persevering in prayers. Joyous prayer will birth God’s purposes on the earth so be open to the spirit of prayer. Without the Holy Spirit prayer becomes tedious and hard. We have to die to self and let the Spirit of God release the river of prayers in us.

The prophet Isaiah foresaw in the Spirit the restoration of God's house, not just the return of Israel from seventy years of Babylonian captivity, but an even greater miracle, the restoration in the last days of both Jews and Gentiles. These two peoples that were to be reconciled by the blood of Christ. But the final point in this passage is God's statement that his house will be a house of prayer for all people. Originally, the promise was for the nation of Israel, but finally, it was fulfilled in the Church. Thus, the Lord Jesus in word  demonstrates that He no longer considers the physical temple as His House, but calls it a "den of thieves", thus establishing a new House, built upon the foundation of Himself (Matthew 16:18). Today we know that the Body of Christ is the Temple of God.

The Ministry of Prayer

We are all called to be priests unto God and we need to fully realize the tremendous ministry we have as a priest. First we minister to God then to His people. Under the New Covenant spiritual sacrifices were offered (praise and worship and prayers).  In this hour the Holy Spirit is renewing and refreshes His church so our responsibility of being a New Testament priest is to offer up "spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God by Jesus Christ." (1 Peter 2:5)

Revelation 1:5, 6: ". . . unto him that loved us and washed us from our sins in his own blood, and hath made us kings and priests unto God . . ."

1 Peter 2:5: "Ye also as lively stones are built up a spiritual house, a Holy Priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices . . ."

Revelation 5:9, 10: "And hast made us unto our God kings and priests…."

When Jesus gave up the ghost at Calvary, the veil in the temple was rent from top to bottom, thus assured every blood-washed child of God entrance into the holy of holies that is in His presence. It was at Calvary that the New Testament priesthood of all believers was instituted through His precious blood.

Hearing God’s Voice

Without communications relationship die. Prayer is a two-way conversation. In an ordinary conversation, we speak, and then we listen for the response of the other person. It's the same with God! Once we've prepared our hearts to listen through prayer, we're more likely to hear the voice of God and He will speak to us through an audible voice? God speaks through His Word. The Holy Spirit loves to fellowship and speaks with us.

" To know and recognize a person’s voice is to spend time with him. We can know God through the person of the Holy Spirit. We can hear His voice by spending time with Him in prayer. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. (James 4:8). God want to speak to you personally. He wants you to hear His voice."

It is God’s desire to have intimate fellowship with us and a deep need in each of us to be near to Him. We can only hear His voice when we become still – away from the busyness of everyday demands. It is a place of laying down your burdens at the feet of Jesus and opens your heart to receive what He has prepared for you.

Drawing near to God opens the doors for Him to fellowship and communicate to you. His desire is to lead, teach, the truth and show you things to come. (John 16: 13 – 15) Jesus calls the Holy Spirit the counselor. The Greek word is PARAKLETOS:  alongside to help, strengthener, advocate helper, advisor, intercessor and friend. So no need to afraid to trust the voice of the Holy Spirit. He wills always harmony with the word of God. So in prayers we have to wait on the Lord and rest in His love. We need to Hear God's Voice with the Help of the Holy Spirit.

As we wait in God's presence, often the Holy Spirit hovers over us to reveal more of His love and to renew and repair areas of our life.  "But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you." (John 14:26). We need to know His voice. That’s how we get to know Him is by praying in the Spirit, getting into His Word, spending time with Him, the One who has all the answers.

Prayer is not powerless ritual. It is effective, accurate and brings results. When you pray according to the Scriptures, you can know that God watches over His Word to perform it. Prayer is the “living” Word in your mouth. Commit yourself to pray, by approaching God with His unchanging Word. Nehemiah heard about the desolations of his home land. He prayed and acted. Having embarked on the rebuilding of the wall (Neh 4), the opposition became intense. However, Nehemiah demonstrated an excellent example.

PRAYER

P = Praise and Worship unto God

R =Relationship with God

A = Ask in Faith

Y = Yield to His will

E = Early in the morning

R = Receive in Faith

Without Prayer we go nowhere but with little prayer we go somewhere. There is joy in my house of prayer. Despite the challenges we face, make sure to set aside time to pray and seek His face. Prayer is a love respond to the burden of others so make prayer a priority. Your oils have a pleasing fragrance, your name is like purified oil; therefore the maidens love you (Song of Solomon 1:3). One thing I have asked from the Lord, that I shall seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to meditate in His temple (Psalm 27:4).

Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need (Hebrews 4:16).  “Be still, and know that I am God (Ps 46:10).” There are so many voices speaking today. It’s important to get quiet before the Lord. He is speaking so clearly to those who wait to hear His voice. God is not a God of confusion.  Rest in Him, seeks His face, and trusts Him with all your heart. He will bless you with His very best!

Let us pray and trust our Father in Heaven to give us what we ask as we abide in Him and His Word. The Best is yet to come.
