The Blessings of "Oils" By Jody Lewis, from Ohio
Did you know that there are more than
1,000 references
in
the Bible regarding oils and their use
in maintaining wellness, for healing,
for worship, for emotional cleansing,
for purification from sin, and used in
anointing persons for special tasks?
Besides the oils of the Bible, there are
countless plants that are used in making
oils. If God created the plants in
which oils are derived, why are they not
a part of our live today? I am testimony of their benefits in my life. As God has been directing me in a path of optimal health, essential and therapeutic oils have helped in bridging the gap in my shortcomings of eating things that I shouldn't, or not being active enough. As I am striving daily to do my best for Him, the oils I use each day have kept colds and the flu from my door. Jim and I can tell of many accounts where oils have reversed an ailment. Along with healthy eating, oils work all the more. In the Bible essential oils were inhaled, applied topically, and taken internally, as they are today. They have a great capacity to be absorbed in our system bringing sometimes a greater antioxidant to our bodies than food. Interestingly, there are four oils of the Bible, one being clove oil that has the antioxidant capacity in only one ounce, equivalent to 450 lbs of carrots, 120 quarts of blueberries, or 48 gallons of beet juice. Essential
oils can pass through the skin and reach
every part of the body in minutes, being
composed of tiny molecules! You can
place a drop of cinnamon or peppermint
oil on your feet, and taste it on your
tongue in seconds. Hospitals around the
world are beginning to use oils not only
for healing, but for cleaning and
disinfecting. As we take responsibility for the earth that God has given us, one can use countless oils in cleaning our homes, getting away from chemicals that are destroying our immune systems along with the planet. We are to be good stewards of everything God has placed in our hands. How many times in the Old Testament God gave instruction in anointing someone for a work he had called them to do. A good example of this is recorded in (2 Kings 9:3). We can also remember David, the shepherd boy set apart and anointed to be King of Israel! Most oils of the Bible were costly and precious, often set aside for special occasions. One example is of Mary Magdalene using spikenard to anoint the feet of Jesus. Spikenard was very costly, and was sealed in alabaster boxes. The disciples looked to Mary as being foolish and wasteful. It is a fragrance of forgiveness. Perhaps she was preparing her Lord for the wrong that would soon befall him. There is also reference to spikenard in (Mark 14:3) where Jesus was in the house of Simon the leper where a woman with an alabaster box of spikenard, stating that it was very precious, broke the box and poured it on his head. Oils are mentioned in birth and in death. The Word tells us that the Magi brought gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. Frankincense is highly fragrant when burned, used in worship. In (Exodus 30:34) it states that it was a pleasant offering to God. It is a symbol of holiness and righteousness. In ancient scrolls it was written that Frankincense was used to treat every conceivable ill known to man. Today it is an indication for asthma, depression, and ulcers. It is an expectorant, anti-tumoral, immune stimulant, and a defense against infection. Myrrh was a spice used in embalming. It was sometimes added to wine as was the drink given to Jesus when He was being crucified. In (Matthew 27:34) it is referred as gall. Myrrh symbolizes bitterness, suffering, and affliction. Jesus grew to suffer greatly as a man, and would pay the ultimate price when He gave His life on Golgotha's hill for you and for me. Some of the uses for myrrh are for helping sooth a sore throat, asthma, hepatitis, cancer, diabetes, digestion, and eczema. The lists of oils and the wonderful properties that they hold goes on and on. I
would encourage you to search the
