Pulling up your Potential     

Deut. 32: 9-10 says, “For the Lord’s portion is his people, Jacob his allotted inheritance. In a desert land he found him, in a barren and howling waste. He shielded him and cared for him; he guarded him as the apple of his eye.”

The Word says he found him, led him, instructed him, and kept him!!! How many of you know God is a keeper; he will keep you when you can’t keep yourself.

Verses 11 and 12 of that same chapter says, “like an eagle that stirs up its nest and hovers over its young, that spreads its wings to catch them and caries them on its pinions.  The Lord alone led him; no foreign god was with him.”

I want to talk just a little about Pulling up your potential. As an eagle stirreth up her nest, SO THE LORD ALONE - Let me tell you that it’s nobody but Jesus that will stir you!

I love and thank God for his Word.  The Bible says that the grass will wither and flowers will fade but the Word will abide forever. See, God has never had to prove himself to you, to me, or anybody else for that matter. In the beginning it was God, period, end of discussion --- No less, no more --- it was just simply God!  

He makes no attempt to authenticate himself or even explain himself because how many of you know, God can’t be explained anyway. God just comes in your spirit, reveals himself and you know that you know that you know everything your momma was trying to tell you about for the last 20 years. But it only happens when God begins to reveal himself to you.

He is an awesome God, He is a sovereign God. Isn’t it good to know that it is never over until God says it’s over?  He is an unchanging God. He is a covenant keeping God.  If he said it he is going to do it in your life. I don’t care what it looks like and it doesn’t matter what it feels like, God is not a man that he should lie. He is a covenant God and He is a communicator. 

This God that I serve will talk to you in the middle of the night, in the middle of a storm. He is a speaking God. He talked the Bible says, until the angels stood back and gave him a standing ovation. The stars of the morning sang together.  The sons of God clapped their hands. Even darkness said I recognize that voice and immediately began to back up.  Everything around him changed. Now, if that same God lives in you, then if you don’t like the way your life is going then talk your way out of it.

We serve a speaking God and when he speaks the winds have got to obey him, the elements have got to obey him. Your blood pressure has got to stabilize, cancers got to dry up, your nerves have got to calm down. Everything he talks to WILL CHANGE!! He spoke to the mountains and hollowed it out by saying stand up. He pressed down the valley by saying lie low. And he does what he wants, when he wants, anytime that he wants with anybody that he wants because he’s God all by himself. 

And should he ever get ready to raise you up no Devil in hell can keep you down!!  So, he is a speaking God. He can talk until the drug addict knows he’s God. Even the alcoholic will sober up and recognize his voice. God will be what ever you need him to be whenever you need him to be it.

That’s why true worshippers need time to worship. Because when I’m standing here worshipping him for being that to me I’ll turn around and remember, OH but you were that to me also. So, it takes time for true worshippers to worship God because he is everything.  He said I am that I am!

Now the bible says the earth was with out void and darkness fell on the face of the earth and the spirit of God moved!  Here we have something we can look at through the eyes of the law first mentioned in the scriptures. This is the first time the bible talks to us about the spirit and the first thing he tells us is that he is a moving spirit which means that he is mobile.  He is also a present help in the time of trouble.  Jehovah Shammah --- a present help. 

That means he’s the kind of God that gets in between you and trouble. He is the kind of God that can get in between you and insanity and talk you back from the edge and say, oh no you don’t have to go that way. Let this mind that is in Christ Jesus be also in you. That’s what makes prayer so powerful. When I’m looking at something that won’t move I know that I serve a God that will move so I can look right at it and say because he will move I say unto you be thou removed and cast into the sea.

The word move there means to brood over. Much like a mother hen sits down on her eggs for the hatching purpose. The spirit of the Lord sat down on the earth.  In other words he sat down to bring up out of the earth what was already in the earth. When he sits down and a mother hen sits down they sit with expectation.  Not like you or I, we go home sit down in our lazy boy and don’t expect anything.  But when a mother hen sits down she sits down expecting something to change.  Tell yourself right now, I am expecting something to change in my life!!!

That’s what God does. He sits on us for the purpose of hatching what’s on the inside of us. How do we know we have anything in us?  For the bible says we have this treasure in earthen vessels. Do you know what that means?  It means God has buried treasure inside of you and me. That means we are carrying precious cargo. I don’t know what it’s called.

I just say like Mary, it’s a holy thing, a holy thing down inside. That’s why we are going to make it. That’s why we are going to overcome. That’s why no weapon formed against us will prosper.  We’ve got a holy thing on the inside of us.

Our dilemma is that we are a human thing carrying a holy thing. And the only way we’re ever going to get the holy thing up out of the human thing is to allow God to sit down on our life. And the more he sits and the more he broods over us then he begins to bring things up out of us. And just when you think you have become everything you are going to become you realize God has pulled something else up out of you and every round goes higher. He reached into the earth and pulled out a man. Then he reached into the man that he pulled out of the earth and pulled out a woman. Then he reached into the woman that he pulled out of the man that he pulled out of the earth and he pulled out a family.  Every round went higher! 

And the thing I love about God is he knows our frame. He knows how much pressure we can take. He knows how to sit on us. He knows what I can take and what I can’t take. He knows how to apply just the right amount of heat in my life to bring up out of me everything he said that was in me before the foundations of the earth.

God will lengthen your cords. He will stretch you. Even to the point where you feel like your going to break but he’s only trying to enlarge your territory, because you will become everything God said you will become. Somebody says, well, I don’t have any gifts or talents for God to work with.

Let me just tell you, the earth was without form. That means God had nothing to work with. So today, if you say, God I don’t have anything, I am barren, no gifts, I can’t sing, I can’t dance, I can’t preach, then you are in good shape because there was nothing for God to work with. But, when he got done sitting and brooding, all of a sudden, fish began to swim, birds began to fly, grass began to grow, darkness began to back up and make room for the light to come through. 

Why is that? It is because the entrance of the word will bring the light into your life. It illuminates your life. Let me tell you, I would rather be in a church any day of the week that established me in the Word then be in a church that had a good music program. It’s about the entrance of the word that God brings. If you’ll open up your spirit today, the Word that somebody preaches will get inside of you and when it gets inside of you it will turn on the light and all of a sudden you quit tripping over the same old stuff.

What happens is the Word gets inside of you and the light of the Word does not remove the object but it does expose the object. You’ll be walking along on your journey and all of a sudden you see something and you say I would have fell for you 6 months ago but I got some Word inside of me know. I’m not falling for that same joker anymore. I’m not going back to them same drugs. I’m not tripping over you anymore. Do you understand what I’m saying?

Everything you see in the earth is a result of God sitting on the earth and brooding over the earth. He used a similar passage when he created the church. The Word says you shall receive power after the Holy Ghost shall come upon you.  In other words if there is no coming upon you of the Holy Ghost you don’t have any power. I don’t care that you can sing well, you have no power in your song.  See we’ve raised an entire generation that does not like to be sat down on. And because of that we’ve got personality in the pulpit but we don’t have much power in the pulpit. We don’t have much character in the pulpit. 

We don’t have a whole lot of integrity in the church. There are a lot of people that don’t have any power because they don’t let the Holy Spirit sit on them. We have sacrificed holiness to go to the next level and as a result, we’ve got great musicians but we don’t have much power. I read that when David picked up his harp and began to play those troubling spirits had to leave Saul because David had power with God. What we need is for God to brood over us, to breath on us until he blows out the old man and blows in the new man.

God is after our heart. The more he has our heart the more he will reveal to us.  Every person that is reading this is full of potential. You are loaded with everything you’re ever gonna need, if you will allow God to sit on your life until he brings it out of you.

I don’t know who this Word is for, but I’m writing this to tell somebody he’s getting ready to take you from the struggling stage to the soaring stage if you allow the Holy Spirit to sit on you and brood over you. God said to tell you, don’t worry how your life might be shaken, don’t worry who may be leaving. It’s going to be alright, because when God brings you into a new season he releases you from the old season. There’s an old saying “if he brings me to it he’ll bring me through it!”

You are closer than you think. You are packed with everything you will ever need just let the Holy Spirit brood over you and pull out your potential!
