This
winter in the northeast, we were overcome with a large
amount of snowfall. We haven't seen that much snow in
a long time. If it weren't for the goodness of a
neighbor, we might have not been able to get out of our
drive way for days.
He was able to get the very large enclosed tractor from the
farm next to us, and move the snow off of our drive.
My car was already in a ditch a few miles
away. Yet, there's something about that first heavy
snowfall that I love. It's almost like the world stops
and we find ourselves in a state of serenity and peace.
But then one day out in the world, and the reality of it all
hits your right in the face.
Everywhere we would go people would be complaining about
the snow. All the time I was thinking, isn't this winter? Isn't
this the natural course of things?
Then I came across this passage of
scripture in Isaiah 55:10 which says, "For
as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and
returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it
bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and
bread to the eater".
God made snow for a purpose! Think about
it. It waters the earth in the winter. If you
live in the country like we do, and have a well, that snow
is adding water to your well. God knows how much water
needs to be stored up for the future.
God is filling up all those lakes and
rivers to take care of us in the dry times. This
caused me to see that most every situation or thought before
us can be viewed from a positive side instead of a negative
one.
If we look back to 9-11, how many stories
did we hear of someone's alarm not going off, or someone
missing a train, or some other occurrence that saved someone
from destruction at the towers. How many times have
we've been late to get somewhere because something delayed
us, which caused us to be angry. Not seeing that God
may have been keeping us from danger.
Psalm 31:5 says, "My
times are in thy hand: deliver me from the hand of
mine enemies, and from them that persecute me."
Each and every day God's blessings are
showered upon us and we forget to be aware of them. We
complain if the line in the grocery store is too long, yet
we have monies to shop and food in our bellies. We
murmur if our utility bills are too high, yet we are warm in
the winter.
It's too hot, too cold, too wet, too dry,
the government is corrupt, yet we live in a nation founded
upon Godly principles, and we are blessed with a nation of
prayer warriors. We must remember that praise is one
of the greatest weapons against the enemy.
Psalms 149:5-9 compels
us, "Let the saints be joyful in glory: let them sing aloud
upon their beds. Let the high praises of God be in
their mouth, and a two-edged sword in their hand. To
execute vengeance upon the heathen, and punishment upon the
people. To bind their kings with chains, and their
nobles with fetters of iron: To execute upon them the
judgement written: This honour have all his saints.
Praise ye the Lord."
What a different world we would live in
if there were no complaints! How much closer to the
Lord we would be tomorrow if we could begin to see things as
He does today. Let this come as a challenge to
everyone, to turn those negative thoughts to good, and to
glory in the abundance of the Lord!
