Jehovah Nissi: The Lord Is My Banner
The Olympic games always open with a
procession of athletes from all participating nations of the world marching
with their flag. They march with a shout of joy expressing their
liberty and freedom. The most important fact about the flag is: victory and triumph. Here in Mauritius we rally our independency on the 12th
of March, with our multicolor flag and celebrate our freedom.
This reminds us
of our
independence that God has given us all in Christ Jesus in the shedding of His
blood. We are free indeed. We are in His Kingdom, and in Him we have total
victory. The enemy is defeated. Jesus is the captain of the army. Praise to
Him!!
It was in the Old Testament where God for the first time revealed
himself as Jehovah Nissi, THE LORD IS MY BANNER. It happened at the time
when Israel was wandering in the wilderness after crossing the Red Sea. Amalek
was the enemy who came against Israel in Rephidim. (Exodus 17: 8- 16)
In this story, the Israelites came against a terrible foe, whose
name was Amalek. The Amalekites were the first nation to oppose and fight
Israel. Amalek in this story represents Satan our enemy, who is against God's
people in all generations. In the gospel of (John 10:10) declares, the thief
cometh not but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they
might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. Praise the Lord
for the leader is still in the house.
Moses told Joshua to get some men and prepare to do battle. Moses directed
Joshua to go up on the hilltop overlooking the valley and pray. Moses had in his
hand the rod, the staff of God. This staff is a symbol of the authority of God,
but also a symbol that God was with him. As Moses lifted his hands in worship
and prayed, the Israelites prevailed in the battle but when he let his hands
down, Amalek prevailed. So Aaron and Hur set Moses on a rock and held his hands
up for him until the battle was totally won. They supported him. This is unity
and love. When we see our brother and sister growing weary or tired, it is our
job to support, to encourage them.
Indeed,
the
Lord is our banner. He is Jehovah Nissi. He is the one who does the impossible
and we do the possible. He's the one who will fight the battles for us. In all
things we are more than conquerors through Him that love us. To conquer means
to triumph, to overcome, to win, to succeed and to be victorious. The
adversary is defeated. The power of the enemy was broken when Jesus was raised
from the dead. Peter says the devil is like a roaring lion not a real lion. It
is a paper lion. Victory is now because His love is in us. The victory that
overcomes the world is our faith in Jesus Christ. Faith is now. By faith
we can go from victory to victory. We put all our confidence and trust in Him. Our
job is simply to accept our God-appointed position and agree with the Word. We
are sitting in heavenly places with Christ. There is absolute victory in Him.
Yes victory has been given to us. Greater is Christ who is in us. We can do
all things with the power of Christ, which strengthens us. We're more than
conquerors because of Christ being with us and in us by the power of the Spirit.
We are on the winning side and we are born to win the battles. Blessed be the
God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual
blessings in heavenly places in Christ.
What are your
battles right now? What are your needs? Call upon Jehovah Nissis He is faithful
to fulfill His promises in our lives. Lift up our hands in worship and prayers.
Worship as a weapon of warfare is the most astounding one that brings us
complete victory. When we worship Him with all our hearts, we are not looking at
His hands but His face. Our faces gazes on His glorious grace. Be a worshipper! David is well known as the sweet Psalmist of Israel who wrote the book of
Psalms. David penned the beauty and the majesty of our God. God is calling us
into a deeper level of intimacy and wants to rub His fragrance on us. Thus, we
become carriers of His divine glory and spreading His fragrance to a dying and
desperate world. Moses came to value his friendship with God. And the Lord spoke
to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend. Exodus 33:11. Praise to
Him!
Jehovah Nissis
said the Battle is not yours. Be not afraid of any situation or any
circumstance. He is with us and will fight for us. 2 Chronicles 20: 15. And he
said, Hearken ye, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and thou king
Jehoshaphat, Thus sayeth the LORD unto you, Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason
of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God's.
1 John 4: 4 ye
are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that
is in you, than he that is in the world. We are filled with the life of God.
Jesus is greater than the devil. He is greater than sin, sickness, and poverty.
He is the Lord of the impossible. He is Jehovah Nissi. He is bigger than our
problems. Raise up your hands in prayer and worship. Don't give up. You miracle
is on your way. God is faithful to fulfill his word and ready to touch where you
are and release His Blessings upon you. Victory is yours.
Let us pray. Heavenly Father, we want to say thank you for your word, which is a
revelation to our hearts. We have victory through Christ Jesus.
The Lord is our banner. The time of victory is come. Greater is He that is
in me.
No weapon formed against me shall prosper. I am victorious in Him. Amen!!
