DIALOGUE WITH GOD
Hearing His Voice and letting your voice be
heard!
by Minister Dr. Trudy Veerman
from Canada
Psalm29:3-4...
The voice of the Lord is over the waters; The God of Glory
thunders; The Lord is over many waters. The voice of the Lord is
powerful; the Voice of the Lord is full of majesty.
Isaiah 1:18a... Come now, and let us reason together,
says the Lord.
Not every believer in Christ has the same experience in hearing
from the Lord. In general, an individual is so much connected
with and depending on one's senses (hearing, sight, smell, touch
and taste) for detection, transduction and transmission of
information, that it is difficult to understand that God is not
limited to our senses to convey messages to His children.
Although there
are many scriptures related to this subject only the most
familiar ones have been used.
Genesis 3:9-19... The Lord called to Adam and said to
him, "Where are you?"
This was a dialogue
between God and Adam.
Genesis 6:13... And God said to Noah, "The end of all
flesh has come before me, and the earth is filled with violence
through them; and behold, I will destroy them with the earth".
In Genesis 37,
the Lord spoke to Joseph through various dreams. In Exodus 3,
Moses heard the voice of
the Lord coming from the midst of the burning bush.
In 1 Samuel 3:9-14,
While
Samuel laid down the Lord called: "Samuel! Samuel !
And the Lord
spoke further to him.
2 Samuel 2:1...David inquired of the Lord, saying, "Shall
I go up to any of the cities of Judah?" And the Lord said to
him, "Go up."
David said, "Where shall I go up? And He said, "To
Hebron."
The Lord has spoken and still speaks to His children through an
audible voice, dreams, visions, inner voice and His Word, for
instance.
We may not hear His
Voice in the same manner as others, but if we need to hear from
Him He will certainly speak to us in one or other way.
In order to hear
His Voice we have to walk close to Him.
When you are walking
with a friend you normally don't keep 200 feet distance between
each other. This is too uncomfortable for communicating and it
does not really look like you are friends.
Friends stay close
together and in general talk while they walk.
We show our commitment to Him by walking in obedience and in
agreement to His Word. We have to be fine tuned in order to
communicate with Him and to hear His Voice.
The Lord speaks
through His Word, by His promises and His warnings. We do not
have to sit in a corner waiting for His answer. When we pray, we
have faith that what we ask, we will receive, Luke 11:9 and
Mark 11:24.
Thus, we step in the direction of our prayer, by faith. When we
need to hear from God we may ask also for a confirmation.
Sometimes we know in our heart what the answer is and when we
receive an unexpected phone call or letter from a friend stating
the same thing that is a confirmation. Of course, answers
contradicting the Bible are not of the Lord.
The Bible says in
Proverbs 3:6...In all your ways, acknowledge Him, and He
shall direct your paths.
We have to act upon our faith, walk forwards and do what you
must do or what you believe is right. He will watch over you and
prevent you from hurts. We should ask and pray, believing that
the Lord is with us and walks beside us.
No good friend will
allow you to fall down a cliff if he can prevent it!
Years ago, my husband and I wanted to buy this house for our
family, but it was more than we could afford.
I went down with
the Real Estate agent to check it out.
I really liked it and
there was lots of room for the children to play.
A few days went
by and I felt in my spirit that we should make an offer.
So, I
prayed about it and came to a certain figure, which I then wrote
down on a piece of paper. When my husband came home from work,
he said to me that we should make an offer on that house.
Yes, I replied,
how much would you offer? He paused, then he mentioned a certain
amount of money. I looked at him and grabbed the piece of paper
out of my pocket and gave it to him.
He looked at the paper,
then at me. It was the same amount of dollars as I had written
down on the paper.
We presented this offer,
which was 1/3 less than the asking price.
We got the house!!
Another time we prayed about something and found a scripture to
support our prayer and we obtained the answer by faith on that
scripture.
Psalm 119:58...I entreated your favour with my whole
heart; be merciful to me according to Your Word.
In Genesis 18:20-33...The
Lord spoke to Abraham concerning Sodom and Gomorrah.
Abraham reasoned
with the Lord and said,
Would you destroy the
righteous with the wicked?
Suppose there were fifty righteous
within the city; would you destroy the place and not spare it
for fifty righteous that were in it?
Verse
26...So the Lord said: "If I find in Sodom fifty righteous
within the city, then I will spare all the place for their
sakes."
Abraham dares even to ask the Lord for more.....Suppose there
were five less than fifty righteous...The Lord said: If I find
there forty-five, I will not destroy it.
Abraham went on
and on, till ten righteous.
The Lord said: I will not destroy it
for the sake of ten. As we all know, there were not even ten
righteous, so Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed.
This story
tells us that God is willing to change His plans.
If not, He
would have stopped Abraham right at the beginning and He would
have said: No Abraham, I cannot change my plans.
Exodus 32:10- (after Israel worshipped the Golden Calf)
now therefore, let me alone, that my wrath may burn hot against
them and I may consume them.
Verse 11...Then Moses pleaded with the Lord his
God...verse 12b...(Moses continued to the Lord) Turn from
your
fierce wrath and relent from this harm to
your people.
Verse 14... So the Lord relented from harm which He said
He would do to His people.
Deuteronomy 9:19-20... For I (Moses) was afraid of the
anger and hot displeasure with which the Lord was angry with
you, to destroy you. But the Lord listened to me (changed His
mind) at that time also. And the Lord was very angry with Aaron
and would have destroyed him, so I prayed for Aaron also at the
same time.
Again we see, the Lord changed His mind and did not destroy
Israel nor Aaron
In the book of Jonah we can read how Nineveh was spared.
Jonah 3:2f...One who relents from doing harm.
Jonah 3:10...Then
God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and
God relented from the disaster that He had said He would bring
upon them, and He did not do it.
Amos 6:8b...I abhor the pride of Jacob and hate his
palaces. Therefore I will deliver up the city..
Amos 7:2b...
(Amos prayed) O Lord God, forgive, I pray, Oh, that Jacob may
stand. For he is small! Verse 3 So the Lord relented concerning
this. It shall not be, said the Lord.
Nineveh and the
tribe of Jacob were saved because God did relent.
You read Isaiah 38:1.....In those days Hezekiah was sick
and near death. And Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, went to
him and said to him: Thus says he Lord, Set your house in order,
for you shall die and not live".
Now,
look further:
Isaiah 38:2-3...Then
Hezekiah turned his face toward the wall, and prayed to the Lord
and said, "Remember now, O Lord, I pray, how I have walked
before You in truth and with a loyal heart, and have done what
is good in Your sight." And Hezekiah wept bitterly.
Verse 5..."Go
and tell Hezekiah, Thus
says the Lord, the God
of David your father: "I
have heard your prayer, I have seen your tears; surely I will
add to your days fifteen years."

By turning his face to the wall Hezekiah closed himself off and
saw only GOD. His fervent prayer and tears made God change
things around. When God changes things around, it is because of
His mercy and always in our favour.
When it comes to
His promises and mercy, the Lord won't budge.
He does NOT
change His promises to us, nor nullify them.
His mercy endures
forever.
Psalm 110:4.... The Lord has sworn and will not relent.
Numbers 23:19...God
is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He
should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He
spoken, and will He not make it good?
Malachi 3:6...For I am the Lord, I do not change;
Therefore you are not consumed, O sons of Jacob.
As I mentioned before, we may not hear an audible voice, but He
can speak to us in many different ways.
In our sleep or dreams,
through others, through His Word, in your heart.
If you are not
sure you've heard Him speak, ask for clarification.
You don't have to be afraid that you are going to make big
mistakes while making decisions.
He is your Heavenly Father and
cares for you, as long as we walk in obedience and not in sin.
He cares more about us than our earthly father.
He is a Good
God. If
we as His children are desperate and call upon His Name,
together with Him things can be changed around.
Joel 2:12-14... Now, therefore, says the Lord, turn to Me
with ALL your heart, with fasting, with weeping, and with
mourning. So rend your heart, and not your garments.
Return to
the Lord your God, for He is gracious and merciful, slow to
anger, and of great kindness, and He relents from doing harm.
Who knows if He will turn and relent, and leave a blessing
behind Him.
Psalm 81:10... I am the Lord your God, Who brought you
out of the land of Egypt, open
your mouth wide, and I will fill it.
Analyze this verse, meditate upon it and may you experience the
depth of His Word, the broadness of God's purpose for your life. The encouragement
hidden in these few syllables is multi faceted and just
phenomenal. In this Psalm the Lord literally encourages us to
ask with boldness.
Ephesians 3:12...in whom (Jesus Christ) we have boldness
and access with confidence through our faith in Him.
Hebrews 4:16...Let us therefore come boldly to the throne
of grace that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time
of need.
John 15:7...If you abide in
me, and my words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and
it SHALL be done for you.
Yes, the word
of the Lord is powerfull,
but our words can also be very powerful if presented in faith,
in boldness and in reverence to God. The infilling of the Holy Spirit is essential in your life to
discern His Voice and His Will.
May the word of God enrich your
soul.

the Virgin Mary, was crucified, died, was buried, resurrected,
ascended into heaven, and is now seated at the right hand of
God. We believe in the personal salvation of believers through
the shed blood of Jesus Christ. We believe in the personal
resurrection of the dead, the eternal happiness of the saved,
