    Alone With God

      by Jody Lewis of Ohio

Jesus being our example, found it necessary to get alone with His Father.  People were around Him constantly.  Whether it be with His disciples, or those in need, He was there to minister to them.  His daily walk was His ministry.  Just as Jesus found the need to escape to that quiet place to reconnect with God, we must make this a part of our daily walk.Jesus Praying in Gethsemane by Harry Anderson

Not only Jesus, but others in the Bible found themselves alone with God to really hear His voice.  In Genesis 32:24, "and Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day".  Jacob found himself wrestling with God.  There as he physically struggled with God, God spoke to him.  They actually conversed with each other.  At that place he named Peniel, God blessed him and preserved his life.

When Moses received the Mosaic Covenant from the Lord,  it was he alone that heard the voice of God.  Exodus 24:2, "And Moses alone shall come near the Lord:  but they shall not come nigh;  neither shall the people go up with him."

Daniel was left alone to envision God in all His glory.  The Lord lovingly spoke to Daniel and placed His hand upon him.  Daniel 10: 7-8, "And I Daniel alone saw the vision:  for the men that were with me saw not the vision; but a great quaking fell upon them, so that they fled to hid themselves.

Once a year the High Priests went into the Holy of Holies, to offer atonement for their sins, and for the sins of the people.  (Hebrews 9:7) But into the second went the high priest alone once every year, not without blood, which he offered for himself, and for the errors of the people:

After the miracle of the feeding of five thousand, Jesus perceived that the people would want to make Him king of the Jews.  He departed to the mountains alone to pray.  How many men in His position would have been more than eager to be lifted up in such high esteem.  Jesus in His humbleness stole away to spend time with His Father.  What a great example of keeping our eyes focused on God and to remain in His will, and not to yield to what  our flesh might desire.

Haven't we all come to a place that we say, "I just can't hear the voice of the Lord to know His direction"?  The question really is,  have we taken the time to get completely alone to hear His voice?

We all know what a fast pace we exist in most of the time.  One of the greatest tricks of satan is to rob us of our time.  How much more does he want to make sure we have no alone time with God!  The devil loves to keep us in confusion and out of the will of the Lord.  Don't let him!

How do we resist him?  First by starting each day in the Word and in Prayer.  It is so important to equip ourselves in His Spirit.  At the start of the day we don't know what we may face.  (Ephesians 6:13-16)  Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.  Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;  And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace: Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

Second, be mindful of satan's tricks to rob us of our time.  Stand boldly against him not wavering.  Most importantly, find time to get alone with God to hear His voice.  He is eager to speak to us, and for us to remain in His will.  Let's make it a priority to spend quality time with our Heavenly Father.

Word of Life Ministries Statement of Faith

We believe the Bible to be the inspired, the only infallible authoritative Word of God. We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God, was conceived of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, was crucified, died, was buried, resurrected, ascended into heaven, and is now seated at the right hand of God. We believe in the personal salvation of believers through the shed blood of Jesus Christ. We believe in the personal resurrection of the dead, the eternal happiness of the saved, and the eternal punishment of the lost. We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit, by whose indwelling we are enabled to live a Godly life, with all the Gifts of the Holy Spirit operational in the Body of Christ today. We believe in the Christian's hope, the soon coming return of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Hand In Hand Publication is an Internet Ministry of Faithful Christians joining hands together all around the world, for the sole purpose of promoting the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
