The Great Physicians Prescription

Acts 3:1-10

March 2009      Word of Life Ministries Newsletter
Now Peter and John went up together into the temple at the hour of prayer, being the ninth hour.  And a certain man lame from his mother’s womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms of them that entered into the temple. Who seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple asked alms.

And Peter, fastening his eyes upon him with John, said, Look on us.  And he gave heed unto them, expecting to receive something of them. Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk. And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ancle bones received strength. And he leaping up stood, and walked, and entered with them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God: And they knew that it was he which sat for alms at the Beautiful gate of the temple; and they were filled with wonder and amazement at that which had happened unto him.

Down through the years I have heard a lot of discussion and a lot of controversy when it comes to the subject of healing. Medical science tells us there are many incurable diseases, such as some forms of cancer, arthritis, heart disease and AIDS just to mention a few.

But people want to know, does God heal today? Does he still perform miracles like He did long ago? And is it Gods will to heal me? I’ve heard some say that the miracles that Jesus performed were for His time, and not for ours. They certainly didn’t have hospitals and clinics and surgery rooms like we do, and they didn’t have the technology, or the knowledge of medicine that we know today.

Jesus said the thief comes to steal, kill, and to destroy, but I come that you might have life, and that you might have it more abundantly. So if we want to know what Gods will is when it comes to healing, we need to look at Jesus.  And if we want to know what God has to say about the matter, then we need to listen to what Jesus says.

Jesus said, “He that hath seen me hath seen the Father; the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.”

Luke 5: 12-13 And it came to pass, when he was in a certain city, behold a man full of leprosy: who seeing Jesus fell on his face, and besought him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean. And he put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will: be thou clean. And immediately the leprosy departed from him.

We can see what God does, by watching what Jesus does. Jesus healed everyone who came to Him in faith; He never refused to heal anyone! And we see by the words that Jesus spoke, that the Father’s will was for this man to be healed of his leprosy, so when it comes to sickness and disease in our body today, Gods desire is the same for us today.

I’m so glad to know that healing is part of Gods Redemptive plan. Isaiah prophesied saying, “He Himself took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses”. We are not only redeemed by His blood, but we are healed by His stripes, and the sickness and the suffering that He bore upon the cross is not in vain.

How great Gods power is to those who believe. It is the same Power that raised Jesus from the dead and caused him to walk out of that tomb victorious over sin, sickness, and death. No longer a man of sorrows acquainted with grief and sickness, but instead a living, and triumphant Son of God. No longer the Christ who was dead, but the Christ who is alive!

And if the Spirit of Him that raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will give life to our mortal bodies through his Spirit which dwells in you. I’m so glad to know that the same Spirit of God that lived in Christ also lives within you and me today!

Today Modern science has a medical name for almost every kind of sickness and disease that there is, and we have come far in the diagnosis and treatment of many of them. But it makes me think about a woman in the Bible who had a spirit of infirmity for eighteen years, and was bowed over so that she couldn’t straighten up.

When Jesus saw her, he called her to him, and said, ‘woman thou art loosed from thine infirmity’. And He laid his hands on her; and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God.

Now this was a physical condition that she had suffered with for many years, but Jesus called it a spirit of infirmity whom Satan hath bound all these years.  But the Spirit and the Anointing of the Lord that was upon Christ was greater than any sickness or disease and on that day she was loosed from her infirmity and made whole.

Today there is a medical term given to this condition called, ‘Kyphosis’ which is an abnormal curvature of the upper spine resulting in a bent over condition causing a lot of pain and suffering, just like the woman in the Bible.  If God was able to heal this condition back then, then I know that He is able to heal it today, Amen!

So Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people.  He never turned any one away when they came to him in need.

I believe that healing is part of God’s nature.  And although times have changed, and knowledge has increased, He is still the same today as He was so long ago. His will for us hasn’t changed, and neither has His Word.

Faith comes by hearing the Word of God, and the Bible says He sent His Word and healed them.  Aren’t you glad today to know that we have His Word in Isaiah 53:4-5 that says, “Surely he hath borne our grief’s, and carried our sorrows. But he was wounded for our transgression; he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

Exodus 15:26 He says, I am the Lord that healeth thee. The word LORD is more correctly translated Jehovah-Rapha, which means I am the Lord your Physician that healeth thee.

Proverbs 4:20-22 says, ‘My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings.  Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart, for they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh. Did you know the word, health in the Hebrew language means ‘medicine’?  Gods Word is life to those who find them, and medicine to all our flesh.

If you went to see a doctor today, and he writes you a prescription, you wouldn’t take the medicine home and leave it lying on the counter would you?  No you would follow the directions on the bottle, and take the medicine as prescribed and expect to feel better soon.

I think we need to have that same confidence in Gods Word. His Word is powerful and full of life. It is a strong medicine when taken internally by the hearing and receiving of the Word, it not only gets down into our body, but it penetrates bone and marrow, it gets down into our blood and the cellular structure of our DNA. Gods Word is so powerful and full of medicine that it can bring healing to our minds, our feelings, and our emotions.

One Touch from the Master can change your life. It was faith in the name of Jesus that caused the lame man to go walking, and leaping, and praising God. It was faith in God that caused the woman with the issue of blood to reach out and touch the hem of His garment, and she was made whole.

There are many today that are sick and in need of healing. There are those who are bound by spirits and in need of deliverance.

11 Kings 20:1-7 in those days was Hezekiah sick unto death. And the prophet Isaiah the son of Amoz came to him, and said unto him.  Thus saith the Lord, set thine house in order; for thou shalt die, and not live.

Then he turned his face to the wall, and prayed unto the Lord, saying, I beseech thee, O Lord, remember now how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight. And Hezekiah wept sore. And it came to pass, before Isaiah was gone out into the middle court that the word of the Lord came to him, saying, turn again.

And tell Hezekiah the captain of my people, Thus saith the Lord, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will heal thee: on the third day thou shalt go up into the house of the Lord. And I will add unto thy days fifteen years; And Isaiah said, Take a lump of figs. And they took and laid it on the boil, and he recovered.

God sent His word that day to Hezekiah, and healed him. His Word also revealed the remedy or the medicine he was to use. So it’s important to see here that healing can come by many different ways. God uses the spoken Word to heal, He uses faith in the name of Jesus, the laying on of hands, He uses remedies like the lump of figs mentioned here, and He also uses modern medicine to bring about healing in our bodies today.

But I want you to see another very important revelation here. God sent His Word that day to Hezekiah saying, “Set thine house in order; for thou shalt die, and not live. But it was the prayer of faith that Hezekiah prayed that changed Gods mind and healed him, and gave him 15 more years to live.

So we should never stop praying, we should never stop believing in the times of our afflictions or trials. Even though the Doctors tell you there’s nothing else they could do for you, there is one who hears our prayers, and sees our tears. And in His name, through faith in his name, God is still in the business of healing people today.

God wants you to know that He is your Healer, and He wants you to live and not die and declare the works of the Lord. He wants you to be blessed so that you can be a blessing. He wants to give you the desires of your heart as you delight yourself in Him.

Hand in Hand Publications March 2009

It is my joy to welcome back to Hand in Hand Publications this months as our guest writer, Reverend Willy and Jeanine Christome.  Rev. Willy and his wife pastor the Saint Pierre Assembly of God Church, in the district of MOKA, in the Republic of Mauritius.

Their vision at St. Pierre Assembly of God is to have a great passion for our Lord Jesus-Christ and for the Lost, and to bring the love of Christ first to their country, and to the nation's of the world. They continue to build up the body of Christ with Bible teaching, Pastoral support, Prayer partnerships and articles to help, encourage and strengthen the Christian in their walk with Jesus.

We are blessed this month to have Pastor Willy join hands with us as He ministers a very powerful message entitled, "God's absolutes". It speaks to us about the language of God. God speaks to our hearts today through His Spirit and Word, and He clearly reveals His heart to us. May this message excite in each of us the desire to pay close attention to the Language of God.

I would like to invite each one of you to take some time and visit Reverend Willy's message this month, I know it will strengthen your spirit as you begin to mediate on these words. You can visit this months Publication by clicking on Pastor Willy's website banner.

Take some time out of your busy schedule to encourage someone today.  Let them know what Gods word has to say about them, and just how much God loves them.  Be a blessing!

James 5:13-15

Is any among you afflicted? Let him pray.  Is any merry? Let him sing psalms. Is any sick among you? Let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up.
